Biography

Tim has worked as a consultant since 2013, with wide ranging clients across the education, voluntary and faith sectors after thirteen years of community work and developing innovative church. Prior to this Tim was a Research Chemist in the pharmaceutical industry.

This provides Tim with a unique blend of skills and experiences grounded in the reality of the workplace and also offering insights into human relationships and behaviours, change and innovation.

His major clients at present are Redmoor Academy school, Fresh Expressions Ltd, Rural Ministries and Sheffield Methodist Circuit. He is also Chair of Governors at Hastings High School.

He has an MA in Consultancy for Mission and Ministry (York St John, 2016) and holds degrees in Theology (LST, 1999) and Chemistry (Manchester, 1987) and a Certificate in Management of Voluntary and Non-profit Making Organisations (OU, 2001).

His coaching and mentoring work includes both personal and professional development and he is currently delivering a workplace coaching project at Redmoor Academy.

He is a member of the National Fresh Expressions team as Project Manager for vision event coordination and networking.

Since 2012, Tim has been an Associate for the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity Imagine Project, delivering training workshops to support local churches to make whole-life disciples.

Tim was leader of The Bridge in Hinckley, a fresh expression of church for 11 years. As a successful second phase leader, he was responsible for obtaining a £250,000 grant for organisational development, managing organisational change, the development of a discipleship programme, and a labyrinth experience for a local high school with 150 students participating. During this time he was also Hinckley Circuit Mission Enabler, overseeing the development of a circuit-wide mission policy, engaging 12 local churches varying from large town centre to rural and outlying villages.

His theological qualifications were obtained at London School of Theology, chosen because of its focus on intellectual thoroughness and rigour hand in hand with a passion to support personal and spiritual growth. And prior to this Tim worked as a research chemist at Glaxo SmithKline and Merck, Sharp and Dohme, participating in research teams focusing on asthma, dementia and pain.

The school has recognized adult wellbeing within school as a key factor in staff retention, their high attendance and a positive working environment.  Ultimately it also has a positive impact on student attainment. We decided to offer staff the services of a highly qualified consultant to provide confidential mentoring and coaching. The initial pilot was so well received that we decided to make the service an integral part of our employees’ “benefits”.

The work being undertaken by Tim Lea is having a very positive impact on the school. Many staff, who feel themselves under enormous pressure and/or are having to deal with problems at home, are benefiting from high quality confidential coaching/mentoring which they report is assisting them both at work and at home.

The effect around the school is noticeable. Staff attendance has improved and those using the service have indicated a renewed enthusiasm for their role.

I have worked with Tim for several years. He is just the sort of person you would want in your team – highly competent, great sense of fun, reliable and easy to get on with. I love working with him.

In particular, Tim brings an acute understanding of process, of how to lead people along transformational journeys. His intuitive feel for this is well-grounded in complexity thinking, which enables him to articulate a management and leadership paradigm that makes great sense to people. I value his wisdom.
